Film Analysis:
Javion Cohen presents an intriguing skill set. Primarily aligned at left guard, he is at his best when working up to the second level as a puller and also working double teams or duo blocks prior to climbing uphill. Cohen is excellent at sealing interior defensive linemen on outside zone, where his lower half and explosive feet put him in a position to win.
Cohen's potential improvements in the run game start with power. He appears to have average strength and arm length that fails to showcase an athlete who can displace defensive linemen. Longer, more physical athletes can win the leverage battle and stymie his punch at the snap.
In pass pro, Cohen’s background as a tackle is apparent. Has a smooth kick-step for speed rushers to cut off their outside rush. Strong anchor helps limit interior push against power rushers (0 sacks allowed in career). Excellent lateral ability, showing the ability to mirror and slide with rushers. Football IQ is apparent against loaded boxes where his eyes constantly remain active to locate and pick up free rushers.
Concerns as a player are about mechanics. Hands get lazy at times and will sink his head to engage with defenders which allows opponents to use counter moves to defeat him at the point of attack.
Overall, Cohen touts many of the traits to become an immediate impact offensive lineman due to a high-level athletic profile that sets him apart despite the concerns surrounding his functional strength and length at the point of attack.
